Estuary 2016, the weekend arts event, was a great initiative, especially as it uses the wonderful space of Tilbury Passenger Terminal, a venue I have long championed, particularly as a possible Museum of Immigration. The wooden panelling of the riverside building is deteriorating in a beautiful way, its patina of history an artwork in itself, even before the paintings, photographs and videos have occupied its many rooms. The whole place needs to be used -- and it is, for stalls, talks, films, and even a boat trip with headphones, taking you across the river to a tranquil spot to hear about life's decays. Brilliant help too from Thames Clippers, who gave free trips around Tilbury Docks and up and down the river. Oh, and a fire boat came by to offer an enthusiastic fountain.
