Canaletto's Thames view returns after 250 years
This huge hoarding at London Bridge is Canaletto's The Thames on Lord Mayor's Day, advertising an exhibition at the National Maritime Museum, "Royal River: Power, Pageantry and The Thames" (April 27 to September 9) to celebrate the Queen's Jubilee. We're likely to see quite a bit of this image over the next few months. It's the first time the painting has been seen in Britain since it was bought in London by Prince Lobkowicz in 1752 and hauled offed to Bohemia.
There is is more about the picture – and Canaletto in London – here.
