Dream Boat and Superyachts in West India Dock

In West India Dock's South Quay, in the shadow of One Canada Square, Deutschland is moored for the Games. This is The Dream Boat (Das Traumschift) in the German TV Love Boat reality show. Launched in 1988, she can sleep 513 passengers and 260 crew on seven decks. Here she will act as the hospitality ship for the German Olympic Committee during the Games.

Stad Amsterdam is a handsome clipper now moored between South Quay and Millwall Dock. She is owned by the City of Amsterdam. A replica of an 1850s vessel, she was launched in 2000, and regularly takes part in Tall Ships races.

THE SUPERYACHTS

The Superyachts are gathering along South Quay. Ilona, left, belongs to Frank Lowy. the Australian shopping mall tycoon, whose Westfield development dominates Stratford. (For a good view of the Games visit John Lewis's 4th-floor Olympic shop.) Built in 2004 by Amels of Holland she has a crusing speed of 15 knots, a helipad, and sleeps 16 in 6 cabins.

At 126 metres, Octopus, below, is bigger still, with two helicopters, seven tenders and two submarines. Built in Bremen with an interior by a Seattle designer, she is owned by Paul Allen, co-founder of Microsoft.
