Theme Park for the Thames' Swanscombe Peninsula

The news that a £2 billion Paramount theme park is planned on 872 acres of Swanscombe Peninsula at Ebbsfleet is good news for the local jobs market, as the proposal suggests that it will result in employment for 27,000, a mighty high figure.
The theme park will be another stepping stone down the Thames towards its estuary and a probable new airport. Ebbsfleet in North Kent is a place few people had heard of until the Eurostar decided to stop there. It is in need of some support in its wilderness, and as part of Thames Gateway it has been much mulled over by planners. The development will be on the adjacent land, which belongs to French cement manufacturers Lafarge who are part of the development consortium that has been given a licence from Paramount Pictures to use its name for the resort. The path along the wild coast around the peninsula is one of the best along the Thames, and is bound to be affected.

The theme park will form a substantial element in the establishment of Ebbsfleet Valley, a new town created in 2007 to build 10,000 homes betweeen Bluewater and the Eurostar station. It is scheduled to open in 2018, by which time they may need to build more to house all these new employees.
