Duck! Tower Bridge's bascules rise to the occasion

The first time Tower Bridge has been raised for a duck. The 50ft-high bird was towed from Canary Wharf to HMS Belfast - the same journey Ranulph Fiennes' ice-breaker had just made. Its purpose was to publicise a "FUNdation" bursary sought by online bingo company Jackpotjoy.com, which wants people to have more fun over the festive period.

Rubber ducks are no stranger to the Thames. The annual rubber duck race launches by the Peace Pagoda in Battersea every August when around 175,000 ducks race to see who gets to Albert Bridge first. All for charity.
